The events of September 11, 2001 will forever remain fresh in our hearts and minds.  A program established from the community response to this tragedy is the Citizen's Corps.  Allen County Health Department along with Emergency Management and Allen County Fiscal Court encourage all Allen Countians to participate in Citizen's Corps.  This program consists of two affiliate programs at this time.

The first is the Allen County Community Emergency Response Team (or CERT).  This team will be trained to assist emergency responders in the event of a large scale event, and to provide basic assistance in disasters of all kinds.  Volunteers are needed now!

The second is the Allen County Medical Reserve Corps.  This team of doctors, nurses, nursing technicians, clerical support staff, EMT's, Paramedics, and other interested persons recieve training on how to assist the Health Department in the event of an emergency.  Did you know that when there is a pandemic or epidemic, the Public Health Department is provided with medications from the Strategic National Stockpile and will be charged with the responsiblilty of distributing these items to Allen County's 18,000 residents within 48 hours?  In that case, we'll need help!  That's the purpose of the Medical Reserve Corps - to be ready for these type of situations long before they occur.

Whether you've got 1 hour or 20 hours, your help is needed!  Come by the Health Department today to complete a volunteer application!  We need you!
